Kia ora ko Jazz Wynyard tōku ingoa, I am the programme coordinator at Te Puna Wai ō Tuhinapo, The Youth Residence in Otautahi Christchurch.
Something that’s helped settle me within the Kaupapa of Ō Rangaranga is being around familiar faces. I started in Tū Māia, and so this is a great follow on for me. We’ve delved right into pepeha, mihimihi. I’ve just had a baseline, it’s been a goal for me to just kind of step outside of that and yeah, really expand.
We’ve been getting out of our comfort zone and there’s been some challenging conversations happening. It’s all things that first and foremost build my confidence. This is the platform that’s helped me.
What I think would take Ō Rangaranga to a whole new level is more. It wasn’t easy to find this, it wasn’t something that was kind of presented to us, you should do this. We had to find this.
It needs to be more often, more people. Such an awesome experience I think that we just need to run this kind of Kaupapa out constantly.
Working in Youth Residence, it’s hard for us to get away but making that time and space for our kaimahi to actually come and experience this is first and foremost so that starts at the top.
